I was never a fan of the show. I think I was a bit too young, and thankfully, never could relate to anything on the show. My parents never fit those horrific stereotypes. My mother isn't crass. My father isn't an idiot. My family life was nothing like the Bundy's, and I could never really laugh at them. I could with the Simpsons, but alas, my funny bone is a fickle master.

As for this, I just find it interesting how some countries and some writers take the things from other cultures and remix them and reuse them to suit their own culture. in some cases, they're a straight translation and those seem to do the worst. In others, such as the Polish case, they infused it enough with their own identities that they turned it into something new, and seemingly, its been on for a good while.

I've seen this with other shows as well. If you look at some of the American remakes of British shows, in a couple cases, they've been legitimately better. Being Human comes to mind. But in cases of the Red Dwarf remake, it is legendary for how horrible it is.

Ultimately, I think the difference comes in taking something known and remixing its basic forumla and the writers truly making it their own. We've been doing this with our internal culture for years. There's countless remakes, reshoots, remixes, covers, rewrites, and of course, the fanfiction we do just for fun. Everything is better when we truly take something we love and make it our own. Including the stuff we watch on TV...
